Hugo Ticciati, konstnärlig ledare för Festival O/MODƏRNT, Sveriges mest kreativa violinist och medryckande curator, räds inte att låta genrer, tidsepoker, konstarter och vetenskaper samspela - som årets teatraliska öppningskonsert där Vivaldi möter, finländsk folk- och rock och vild portugisisk dans. På Sveriges äldsta rokokoteater, Confidencen i Ulriksdals slottspark hyllar och uppmärksammar Hugo med musikfestivalen O/MODƏRNT Edition 2017 tillbakablickanden i tiden. Musiker i världsklass utforskar förhållanden mellan gamla kompositörers verk, dagens konstnärliga och intellektuella uttryck. Samtidigt möter rokokointeriören nutida konst i Confidencens foajé, i form av Fine Art Photography av Natalia Mikkola och Paul Quant, curerad av Galleri Duerr. Möten vi knappt kunnat drömma om. Tillsammans utmanar och inspirerar de varandra i det som inte kan fångas i ord.

Hugo Ticciati, konstnärlig ledare för festival O/MODƏRNT, Sveriges mest kreativa violinist, medryckande curator, räds inte att låta genrer, tidsepoker, konstarter och vetenskaper samspela. Med musikfestivalen O/MODƏRNT Edition 2017 utforskar musiker i världsklass förhållandena mellan gamla kompositörers verk och dagens konstnärliga och intellektuella uttryck. Ett experimenterande som först i mötet, på Sveriges äldsta rokokoscen och i mötet med publiken hittar sin slutgiltiga form om det nu finns någon sådan i Hugo Ticciatis värld. För att nämna något ett möte mellan Vivaldi, finsk folk- och rock med portugisisk vild dans eller mötet redan i Confidencens foajé, när Contemporary Fine Art Photography möter rokokointeriören i form av Natalia Mikkola och Paul Quants verk. Möten vi knappt kunnat drömma om, i det som inte kan kläs i ord.

Strax före Hugo Ticciati, hyllad i bland andra Der Tages Spiegel, Berlin, som en av världens verkligt lovande musiker, går på scen med O/Modernt String Quartet, 19 juni, visionerar vi med Hugo och en av Lilla akademins elever, där Hugo själv studerat runt temat ”Kreativitet – hörnsten i all framtida utbildning”.  Deltar i samtalet gör också en av årets utställande konstnärer – fotograf Paul Quant. Skolad av klassiska fotografer på Försvarets Materielverk. Paul avböjde en plats på traditionell fotoutbildning, väl medveten om att skolan aldrig skulle kunna ge honom det dessa klassiska fotografer hanterade  – glasplåtar, 70 mm flygfilm från andra världskriget, enorma förstoringsapparater, blekning och allt som hör mörkrum till. Ett gediget hantverk som gett Paul ett brett spektrum i jakten på rätt bild och misstagen i hantverksprocesserna är delar av det Paul bär med sig in i nya kreativa projekt. Samtalet modereras av Galleri Duerrs Lotte Johansson.
I anslutning till Festival O/MODƏRNTs konserter 16-21 juni visas verk av Paul Quant och Natalia Mikkola i Confidencens foajé. Verken säljs i begränsad upplaga, finns representerade på Artsy, den internationella plattformen för konstsamlande och utbildning samt i Festival O/MODƏRNTs booklet 2017, designad av Deborah Duerr. Intäkter går till att stödja festivalen och utställande konstnärer i sin profession. Natalia Mikkola explores exotic places with her camera – the barren explosive Icelandic landscapes, Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, South Africa with it’s magnificent wildlife, skyscrapes in New York. Natalia does not merely document. She paints, and her camera lens is her brush. In Karelia, misty gray monochrome landscapes blur the boundaries between reality and imagination, shimmering softly in a countless number of shades. Fateful and melancholy, never sad nor frightening, suggestive and captivating. From quite different areas of the world – London and Milan – come her series “Images and Identity”. In “Sylt” from Nordfriesland, a graphic landscape slowly evolves before your eyes. Natalia varnishes her works with a magical sense of the sensual and mythical.

Photographer Natalia Mikkola grew up on the Crimean peninsula in the Ukraine, where weekend excursions with her grandmother, an avid art expert, along with a multitude of visits to Vorontsov Palace, the summer residence and park of the royal family, laid the groundwork for where she is today. Shortly after her arrival to Åland 20 years ago, Natalia studied fine art at Ålands Folkhögskola where she was free to experiment within various media and studies in nature photography.

Natalia has exhibited at the Art and Antique Fair in Stockholm and Helsingborg, CVB Art the Åland Museum of Art, Gallery Skarpans in Mariehamn, with solo exhibitions at Najdron Gallery, Åland Maritime Museum and the Mariehamn City Library. Her Fine Art chromogenic prints, mounted on plexiglas, are produced at a renowned lab in Dusseldorf with license for ®Diasec. 

Natalia Mikkola was represented by Galleri Duerr at the  Nordic Art and Antiques Fair,  Antikmässan, Galleri Najdron, Art Week, Lydmar, 2016, Affordable Art Fair 2015, 2016. She is also represented in Moderna Samlare Available work you find in Artsy.

Fotograf Paul Quant började sin karriär i laboratoriet på FMV 1977 (Försvarets Materielverk). Tackade nej till platsen på traditionell fotoutbildning, eftersom FMVs old school fotografer skulle komma att lära honom mer, inkluderat hantera glasplåtar, 70 mm flygfilm från andra världskriget, enorma förstoringsapparater, blekning och allt som hör mörkrum till. Fem år senare började Paul Quant fotografera brottsplats scener för Polisens tekniska rotel, ett arbeta som kräver mycket kreativitet för att kunna lägga upp olika spår. 1986 rekryterades Paul Quant av tre DN journalister till nyöppnade Studio FJK som reklamfotograf och laboratoriechef. I egen regi har Paul Quant fotograferat sedan 1991 med fokus på konst, reklam, författar- musikerporträtt och på senare år även de mer konstnärliga bilderna han tagit under årens lopp. Fortbildad i Sinar för att utveckla sitt arbete med storformat polaroid samt bild, video- och redigeringskurs vid Kungliga Konstakademien och Konstfack. Förkärleken till det gedigna hantverket har gett Paul Quant ett brett spektrum för att hitta fram till rätt bild, att bara fånga en bild är något helt annat. Misstagen i hantverksprocesserna är en del av det han bär med sig in i nya kreativa projekt.

Artistic Director Festival O/MODƏRNT

Hugo Ticciati gives regular recitals in prestigious halls across Europe and the Far East, collaborating with artists such as Anne Sofie von Otter, Steven Isserlis, Angela Hewitt, Olli Mustonen, Evelyn Glennie, Michael Collins, Torleif Thedéen, Nils Landgren, Philippe Graffin, Christian Poltéra. Regularly invited to renowned music festivals such as Kuhmo, The Baltic Sea Festival, St-Denis-Festival, Cervantino, Edinburgh Festival, St Magnus Festival, Gstaad, Hermitage Music Festival, Gotland Chamber Music Festival and is the Artistic director of his own Festival O/MODƏRNT at Ulrikdal’s Palace Theatre Confidencen, Stockholm, a string festival in Kazan, Russia and directs the O/MODƏRNT chamber orchestra, which is the resident orchestra at Musikaliska Stockholm. The  orchestra made its debut in London at King’s Place. 

Hugo regularly gives masterclasses and seminars on violin teaching, and lectures on music-related subjects all over the world. At the heart of Hugo’s teaching is the exploration of ways to apply the physical and spiritual aspects of meditation to the art of practising, playing and living in music.

Hugo began his violin studies in London before going to the University of Toronto. He continued his studies with the Russian violinists, Nina and Oleg Balabina in Sweden, where he has now settled as a Swedish citizen. Together with many scholarships Hugo has won the international competitions Giovani Talenti and Rovere d’Oro at San Bartolomeo al Mare, Italy (2002), and the Mendelssohn Cup in Bari, Italy (2004). In 2007 he was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Schools of Music in the United Kingdom. Hugo plays on a 1751 G.B. Guadagnini.

Hugo Ticciati is a violinist with a uniquely intellectual approach to his work, incorporating aspects of literature, philosophy, spirituality and meditation. He embraces the world of contemporary music, collaborating with composers such as Sven-David Sandström, Albert Schnelzer, Anders Hillborg, Djuro Zivkovic, Leonardo Coral, Andrea Tarrodi, Tobias Broström, Thomas Jennefelt, Sergey N. Evtushenko, Esaias Järnegard, Wijnand van Klaveren. In the coming seasons he will be performing world premières of concertos dedicated to him in Europe, Asia, and North and South America. He loves devising concerts and events that combine music with dance, literature and more obscure arts such as kinetic painting and rock balancing.

Last season’s highlights included concertos by Bach, Mozart, Prokofiev, Schnittke, Hartmann, Shchedrin, Piazzolla, Auerbach, Glass, Lutosławski, Takemitsu and world premieres of concertos by Tobias Broström, Sergey N. Evtushenko and Albert Schnelzer in venues including Carnegie Hall, Mariinsky Theatre Concert Hall, Chicago Symphony Hall and King’s Place. He also curated a series of concerts at the Wigmore Hall and the Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ, Amsterdam.

Galleri Duerr believes art exhibitions are great ways to tell important stories of our time. With a clear vision of contemporary art being more accessible, Galleri Duerr has, since 2014, been operating as a mobile gallery investing in cross-cultural meetings between different forms of art, artists and generations – national and international, emerging as well as established. Today we are a partner gallery on Artsy, a resource for art collecting and education, and participate annually in the Affordable Art Fair and Stockholm  Art Week and Kulturnatt. Our mission is to exhibit in a variety of public spaces with interesting collaborations, always on the look-out for new and innovative ways to reach out. Our exhibitions with Festival O/MODƏRNT focus on cross-over artist meetings and conversations and with Lydmar Hotel, we focus on highlighting female role models in photography - right now showing the 13 min filmportrait Her Self on the terrace floor (2).

Galleri Duerr has had since its start 2006 an exhibition program with contemporary painting, drawing, sculpture, photography and design in focus. During the years the gallery has developed into a living forum for performance and exhibitions in various formats.


HISTORY
Galleri Duerr was founded by Deborah Duerr, who studied design at the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning. Also designing the booklet of  Festival O/MODƏRNT. Before moving to Sweden in 1984 to start her own design firm, she worked with studios in San Francisco and New York. Lotte Johansson, film producer and storyteller, creates portraits of our artists and moderates Art Talks and conversation. Together they curate and design the gallery’s exhibitions. Their first collaboration was already in 1999 with a Children’s Art Museum Project, holding exhibitions and workshops at The International World Congress of Child Psychiatry in collaboration with Astrid Lindgren’s Hospital, The Water Festival together with SOS Children’s Villages and Swedish Rail’s Culture Train that rolled between Stockholm, Malmö and Gothenburg.
